A false ceiling does three jobs at once — it hides wiring and ducting, it carries your lighting, and it defines zones in an open room. Choosing the right material matters more than choosing an elaborate shape.

The ceiling is only as good as the lighting it carries.
Gypsum for flat, clean ceilings — it is factory-made, dries faster and cracks less. POP for curved or moulded designs where boards cannot follow the shape. Gypsum costs slightly more but is more reliable long term.
A peripheral ceiling drops only the edges and keeps the centre height, which is why we use it in most Kolkata flats. You need at least 8 ft finished height for a full ceiling to feel comfortable.
A 2 BHK peripheral ceiling takes about 7–10 days including drying and priming. Designer multi-level ceilings take 12–18 days.
